How is the TikTok trend chart ranked?

Once a day we read TikTok’s video count for each trend’s hashtag or sound and rank trends by how much it grew since the day before. Plays don’t decide the rank, since a new video is someone joining the trend, which is what makes it a trend. A hashtag’s total plays and the plays it added a day are shown under its name; TikTok gives no play count for a sound, so trends followed by their sound show none.

What do rising, peak and past peak mean?

Each trend’s new videos over the last day are compared with its own daily average over the week before. 15% or more above it is rising, 25% or more below it is past peak, and anything in between is peak. A trend with too few days of counts to compare yet is marked tracking.
