Family Selfie Trend: Put Your Whole Family in the Selfie
The family selfie is one held-out phone and the whole family piling into the frame one at a time — a head in from the side, a kid lifted up, the dog pushed into the gap — until everyone is in and everybody smiles. It is the format @elliegoldenlife set in 2023 with three retrievers and the words “and smile”, the car version has 2.3M plays, and in the last month the AI apps have been selling a frozen copy of it: one family portrait, no movement. This page does the moving one. Upload one photo of each of them, pick one of the twelve clips below, and the model redraws that clip with your family in it — your grandparents, your kids, the dog, whoever you have a photo of — arriving one by one, in that room, with that clip’s sound already under it.

TL;DR
At its peak · as ofThe family selfie trend is one held-out phone and the whole family piling into the frame one at a time until everybody is in — the format @elliegoldenlife set in 2023 with three retrievers, and the version people still copy. In 2026 the AI apps took the name over and started selling the same idea as one frozen family portrait, and that is the half of it getting the big numbers now: 2.4M plays on a single AI family portrait in October. Both halves are still going — the video takes have been steady for three years and the AI prompts are this month’s wave.

@finallyfarryn on TikTokWhat Is the Family Selfie Trend?
It is one phone held out at arm’s length — or the family’s own front camera — and the whole family coming into the frame one at a time. Somebody is already there when it starts. Then a head leans in from the side, a kid gets lifted up, a second kid is pushed into the gap, the dog is shoved in under somebody’s chin, and by the end of the clip the frame is full and everybody is smiling at a lens they cannot see. It lasts six to sixteen seconds and it is usually posted with a warm piano sound.
The format belongs to @elliegoldenlife, who posted “First Family Selfie 📸” on 19 August 2023 — dad alone, then mom, then three golden retrievers, with “and smile” written over it — and followed it two months later with the same thing under the Eiffel Tower, 2.3M plays and 254K likes. Everything since is that move in a different room: @avadecroce’s car (2.3M), @emersynkqueen’s young family in matching rust (197K), @thelammersfamily trying to get a houseful of kids to look the same way once (46K).
Its second life started when the AI apps picked the name up. Under “family selfie”, Google’s box completes “family selfie ai prompt” and “family selfie prompt”, TikTok’s completes “family selfie trend” and “family selfie ai prompt”, and what those apps sell is one frozen portrait: upload a photo of each person and get a single family selfie back. @kyliekingeraa’s generated Kylie-and-Travis family selfie took 515K plays in July 2025; @hnfnswnqa3’s layered AI family portrait took 2.4M in October 2026. Search “ai family selfie” and the top ten is eight of those generators — familyphotomaker, kinpict, familyshoot, familystudioai, togetherlens, gostudio, Canva, LogoAI — and not one of them moves.
That is the half this page takes. The photos are the same photos: one of each person, plus the pets if you want them in it. What comes back is a clip of them arriving — leaning in from the side, sitting down, being lifted up, the dog pushed into the gap — in whichever of the twelve takes you pick, at that take’s length, with its sound already under it. Nothing about your family has to be in the room for it.
It is a family-content trend, which is why it spikes when families are actually together: holidays, reunions, a baby’s first year, the one week a year when everybody is under the same roof. The monthly version — @thelifeofbeth_’s “this is your sign to start the family selfie trend”, the same selfie once a month for the baby’s first year — is the one people are starting now rather than finishing, and it is the reason the search is still climbing in November.
Timeline
The hashtag is already there and already means this: @hamidah.rachmayanti’s “Begini kalau ibu bapak sama anaknya hobby selfie” — a family that cannot stop taking selfies — takes 466K plays under #familyselfie. The tag is a slow one: 949 videos and 5.1M views in total.
@elliegoldenlife posts “First Family Selfie 📸”: the phone goes up, mom leans in, three golden retrievers arrive one at a time, “and smile” over the top. 1.2M plays, and the arrival-one-at-a-time format is set.
The same family does it again under the Eiffel Tower — “Family Selfie 🇫🇷”, 2.3M plays and 254K likes, still the biggest take of the video format. It runs on “Married Life” from Up.
The AI version borrows the name: @kyliekingeraa posts a generated family selfie of Kylie, Travis, Stormi and an invented baby, tagged #familyselfie — 515K plays and 62K likes, and “ai family selfie” becomes a search.
The AI family portrait wave lands the big numbers: @hnfnswnqa3’s layered AI family portrait takes 2.4M plays, and the AI family selfie apps (Chatlulu and the rest) start pushing “the family selfie trend” as a filter.
@thelifeofbeth_ posts “this is your sign to start the family selfie trend and capture it every month for your baby’s first year”, with “I GUESS I’M IN LOVE” under it — the post that put the words in people’s mouths, and the version Google now answers with.
How to Make a Family Selfie Video From Your Family Photos
- 1
Upload one photo of each of them
One clear, front-on photo per family member — face lit, no sunglasses, one person per photo — and put them in the order they should come into the frame: Image 1 arrives first. The pets go in as their own photos. A photo with two people in it works if you say in the box who is who, but one each is what keeps the faces straight.
- 2
Pick the clip your family walks into
The Eiffel Tower one with the retrievers, the car, the beach, the studio session, the young family in matching rust, the bed, the big family, the holiday challenge, the monthly baby version: each of the twelve is a different room, a different light and a different rhythm, and the clip decides all three. Pick the one whose room you want your family in, because the model keeps it exactly as it is.
- 3
Generate, then post it with the sound
You get the clip at its own length, with your family in it and the sound it was posted with already under it. Post it with #familyselfie and a caption that says what it is — “our family selfie, November”, “four generations in one frame”, “the dog would not move” — or start the monthly one and keep going.
Tips for a Better Family Selfie Video
One photo each, not one photo of everybody
The joke of the trend is watching each person arrive, so the model has to know who is who. One photo per person, in arrival order, and the faces stay straight. Hand it a single group photo and it will decide for itself which face goes where — and it decides wrong.
Count the people in the clip first
If the clip has four people in it and you upload four photos, you get four of yours. Upload two and the model repeats the closest match, which reads as a duplicate sibling. Pick a clip with the number of people you actually have, and put the pets in the count.
Light the faces, not the room
The reference is a front camera at arm’s length, so faces fill the frame and every flaw shows. A photo taken in a window, at eye level, with the face lit and no hat shadowing the eyes, is the difference between your mother and a stranger who looks a bit like her.
Grandparents and the ones who are gone
The AI version of this trend started with people adding relatives who had died to one last family photo, and this page can do the same with a photo you own. Do it with the family’s agreement, keep the result labelled as AI, and be ready for it to land harder than you expected.
Keep the frame tight and let the edges be messy
The charm is the elbows and the half-faces at the border of the frame — the person who only gets an eye in. Do not ask for a tidy composition or a portrait crop; the clip already has the framing, and the model should not be talked into centring everybody.
Check the hands before you post
Fast pile-ins are where these renders break: fingers fuse, an arm comes out of a shoulder, the hand holding the phone grows an extra joint. Watch the middle of the clip, and if one of them has three hands, run it again — the second take almost always fixes it.
Pricing
Each family selfie video is one use (700 credits), whether you pick any length from 10 to 15 seconds. The price is on the button before you start, and nothing else is added.
A single use is $9.90; packs of 4 and 8 uses, or a monthly plan that posts trend videos to your accounts for you, cost less per video. A render that fails is refunded automatically.
Autopilot plans
Every month we turn the newest trends into meme videos and post them to your accounts. Each post is one of the plan’s videos, and any you make yourself come out of the same count. Cancel any time.
One-time video packs
Pay once and use them on any trend template, at any length. The credits never expire, and the other video tools can spend them too.
Use it responsibly
- Only upload photos of yourself, of people who said yes, or of your own pets.
- Do not use it to make someone look like they did something they did not.
- Label the result as AI when you post it; TikTok and Instagram both have an AI-generated tag.
- A family member’s face is theirs: ask before you put a photo of them in a video, and do not post one of somebody who would mind.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the family selfie trend?
One phone held out and the whole family coming into the frame one at a time until everybody is in it — a head leaning in, a kid lifted up, the dog pushed into the gap — then one held smile. It lasts six to sixteen seconds. @elliegoldenlife set the format in August 2023 with three retrievers and the words “and smile”, and the Eiffel Tower version has 2.3M plays.
Why is the family selfie trend everywhere now?
Because the AI apps picked the name up. Under “family selfie”, TikTok completes “family selfie trend” and “family selfie ai prompt”, Google completes “family selfie ai prompt”, and what those apps sell is a single frozen family portrait made from separate photos. The AI family portraits are the ones landing millions this autumn — 2.4M plays on one in October 2026 — while the video version has been steady since 2023.
How do I make one if my family is not in the same room?
With photos. Upload one photo of each person, pick a clip, and the model puts them into that clip one at a time, in the order you chose, in that room and that light, at that clip’s length. The four generations can be in four cities and still end up in one selfie, which is the version people actually need at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
How many photos do I need?
One per person, up to four, in the order they should arrive — Image 1 first. Pets count as their own photo. A photo with two people in it works if you say in the box which is which, and if you have fewer photos than people in the clip, the model repeats the closest match for the ones left over.
Can I put my dog or cat in it?
Yes, and it is the best version: the two biggest clips of the trend are a family of three retrievers piling into the frame. One clear photo of the animal’s face, put in as its own reference, and the prompt keeps the species, the fur colour, the markings and the size.
What song is the family selfie trend?
“Married Life” — the theme from Up — carries the biggest takes, including both of @elliegoldenlife’s. The 2026 monthly version runs on “I GUESS I’M IN LOVE” by Clinton Kane, and a lot of the older ones use the creator’s own original sound. The clip you pick comes with the sound it was posted with.
Is this the same as an AI family photo generator?
No. The generators — familyphotomaker, kinpict, familyshoot, familystudioai, togetherlens and the rest — give you one still family portrait. This gives you a clip of your family arriving in the frame one at a time, moving, at the length of the take you picked, with the trend’s sound on it. Search “ai family selfie” and the whole top ten is stills.
What is the family selfie AI prompt?
The prompt for the living-room version is in the AI Prompts section below, and it works in any tool that takes photos plus a reference clip: it names who replaces whom, keeps the faces from the photos and keeps the room, the light, the timing and the sound from the clip. The other four prompts — holiday, mirror, pets, studio — are there too.
What is the difference between the family selfie trend and the monthly baby selfie?
The same pose, on a schedule. The monthly version — “this is your sign to start the family selfie trend and capture it every month for your baby’s first year” — is the same three people in the same spot once a month for a year, so the baby grows in the corner of the frame. Here you generate one month at a time, which is what people do when they started late.
How long is the video?
As long as the clip you pick — ten seconds for the shortest takes, fifteen for the car and the bed — and the cut points stay exactly where the reference has them. The price is one use either way.
What is the Family Selfie Trend AI prompt?
The the living-room pile-in prompt is in the AI Prompts section below. It starts: "Image 1 to Image 4 are the family, in the order they come into the frame." Paste the rest into any AI video tool that accepts your photos.
Put Your Whole Family in the Selfie
One photo per person, one clip, and the family arrives one at a time — grandparents, kids, the dog — in a living room or under the Eiffel Tower, with the sound already on it.

Family Selfie AI Prompts
The five prompts behind the versions on this page: the living-room pile-in, the holiday one, the mirror selfie, the one with the pets and the studio portrait. Each takes up to four photos and a reference clip, and each keeps the arrival-one-at-a-time rhythm, the order and the room exactly where the reference has them.
The living-room pile-in
Image 1 to Image 4 are the family, in the order they come into the frame. Shot the way the reference is shot: a phone held out at arm’s length or the family’s own front camera, vertical, slightly wide, everyone close to the lens and the room behind them, warm indoor or late-afternoon light, real skin, real hair, real clothes. No text, no caption, no sticker, no logo, no watermark, no app interface. The selfie is happening in a family living room in the evening: a sofa behind them, a lamp on, a shelf with family photographs out of focus at the edge of the frame. They are already holding the phone out when the clip starts, and one at a time, the rest of the family comes into the frame — a head leaning in from the side, somebody sitting down beside them, a kid lifted up into the shot, a dog pushed into the gap — until every one of them is in the selfie, and then they all hold the pose and smile. Keep every face and head of hair exactly as in the photos. Audio: the reference clip's sound, nothing else.
