What Is the Hit the Road Dude AI Trend?

It starts with a real clip from August 2025. Two men fishing a pond in Virginia film an older landowner who pulls up in a white pickup, leans out of the window and asks who let them fish there. When they say they thought it was state property, he repeats "state?" three times as if he cannot believe it, tells them to hit the road and explains the pond is private, name-dropping Trey Taylor and Crew Tractor along the way. TikTok knew it as the "state property" or "lock 'em up" meme, and people reenacted it and dropped it on green screens for months.

A year later it came back as an AI trend. On 27 September 2026 the first AI swap put someone new in the driver’s seat, and from 11 October it exploded: @alter.ninja posted the clip redubbed in Spanish with a driver in a sombrero (1.1M likes), then Chinese, Hindi, Portuguese, Korean, Zulu and Italian versions, each with a local driver and car; a Minecraft cut passed 6M likes; Gandalf turned it into "Shire property". Cats, French bulldogs, Trump as a toddler and Dude Perfect followed, and so did the CapCut tutorials.

The hit the road dude AI maker here works the same way without a template: pick one of the clips, upload a photo, and only the driver changes. The truck, the pond, every gesture, the lip sync and the voice, in whichever language the clip speaks, stay as they are.

How to Make a Hit the Road Dude AI Video

  1. 1

Pick a clip and a language

Choose the reference on the right: the English original, the Spanish sombrero version, Gandalf, Grove Street, a cat or a dog. Your hit the road dude video keeps its voice and its language.

  2. 2

    Upload the driver

One clear photo of whoever should do the yelling: you, a friend, a grandparent or a pet. Their face goes into every shot and their lips move with the words.

  3. 3

    Create and post

Your hit the road dude video keeps the original sound, so it fits right into the trend when you post it with #hittheroaddude or #stateproperty.

Who to Put in the Truck

The least likely landowner

The joke is someone tiny or gentle defending their land like a cranky old farmer. A toddler, a grandma or a cat in the driver’s seat makes a funnier hit the road dude video than another old man.

Pick the language your friends speak

The biggest hit the road dude AI posts are the language versions. Remix the Spanish, Hindi or Portuguese clip and the new driver speaks it, lip sync and all.

Pets: front-facing, ears up

For a cat or dog, use a photo looking straight at the camera with the whole head in frame. The AI opens and closes the mouth on every word, so a clear muzzle matters more than the body.

Face the window

The driver is filmed through the open window at arm’s length, so a chest-up photo with the face clear works best. Skip sunglasses, hats pulled low and group shots.

Use it responsibly

  • Only upload photos of yourself, of people who said yes, or of your own pets.
  • Do not use it to make someone look like they did something they did not.
  • Label the result as AI when you post it; TikTok and Instagram both have an AI-generated tag.
  • The man in the original clip is a private person; the remix replaces him, so keep your version about the joke rather than about him.
  • This is a fan-made parody tool and is not connected to anyone in the original video, Crew Tractor, CapCut or TikTok.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the hit the road dude AI trend?

It is the TikTok trend of putting a new face in the driver’s seat of the "state property" clip with AI: a landowner in a white pickup who hears "state property", repeats "state?" three times and tells the fisherman to hit the road. The maker on this page does it from one photo and keeps the original voice.

Where is the hit the road dude meme from?

From a TikTok filmed in August 2025 by two men fishing a pond in Virginia. The landowner pulled up in his pickup and told them it was private property. The clip spread as the "state property" and "lock 'em up" meme, and in late September 2026 people started swapping the driver with AI.

Is hit the road dude from a movie?

No. It is real phone footage of a landowner and two fishermen, not a film scene. The versions that look like movies, with Gandalf, a Brazilian police car or a Venice gondola, are AI remakes of that one clip. The real one is the third sample on this page.

Is there a hit the road dude song?

Not an official one. The rant is spoken; the "song" people look for is the music remixes that cut his lines to a beat, like @plus_nevermute’s hit the road dude meme remix with 1.7M likes, and the line is often mixed up with Ray Charles’ "Hit the Road Jack".

Who is Trey Taylor and what is Crew Tractor?

The names the landowner drops in the clip when he asks for written permission. That is why so many tutorials and remixes say "written permission from Trey Taylor": every version keeps the line, translated or not.

Is the hit the road dude video real?

The original 2025 clip is real footage. The versions with Gandalf, a sombrero, Minecraft, cats or dogs are hit the road dude AI videos: the driver is swapped and the voice is either kept or dubbed into another language.

Who created the hit the road dude AI videos?

The first AI swap we found is from @y3k.archive on 27 September 2026. The biggest ones came from @alter.ninja, who remade the clip in Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Portuguese, Korean, Zulu and Italian from 9 October, and @theflyingscotsmanfr’s Minecraft version with over 6M likes.

Can I make it in another language?

Yes. Pick the Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Portuguese, Korean, Zulu or Italian clip as the reference and your hit the road dude video keeps that dub, so your driver says it in that language with matching lip sync. The real English clip is third in the list.

Can I put my cat or dog in the truck?

Yes, pet versions are some of the most searched. Upload a clear photo of your cat or dog and pick the calico, white cat, bulldog or any other clip. The pet sits in the driver’s seat and mouths every line.

Do I need the CapCut template?

No. The tutorials send you through a TikTok post, a template link and the CapCut app. Here you pick a clip, upload one photo and download your hit the road dude video in the browser, on your phone or computer.

Why is hit the road dude trending again?

AI swaps gave the 2025 clip a second life in October 2026. The language versions and the Minecraft cut each reached millions of people, and the format is easy to copy: one driver, one window and a line everyone already knows.

How much does it cost?

One video is one use, 700 credits, at 13, 14 or 15 seconds. A single use is $9.90, and packs of 4 and 8 cost less per video. Failed renders are refunded.

What happens to the photos I upload?

They are stored in your account so you can reuse them, sent to the video model only for your render, and never shown to anyone else. You can delete them from your history at any time.

Does the video have a watermark?

No. You download a clean MP4, ready to post on TikTok, Reels or Shorts.
